new cards and upcoming events…

08.25.08 | Permalink | Comment?

Today, my brand-new Moo cards arrived in the mail. I have an obsession with these things. They are inexpensive, fun, and easy to modify for upcoming events. I’m using them as tags for my gift bags at two upcoming events.

You’ll be able to read more in my upcoming newsletter but I’ll be at the following events. I’m giving away 50 gift bags to the first people who arrive at my booth as well as a chance to win a mini-session with me this fall.

Stop by and say hello at one or both of the following San Francisco events:

Saturday, September 6th (10am-3pm): Maternity Xchange’s Birth & Baby Fair, Fort Mason Conference Center. Learn more here.

Sunday, September 21st (1:30-5:30pm): The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco’s Happy Baby, Healthy Mama Event, Fisher Family Hall, JCCSF. Learn more here.

See you there!

fall at tea collection…

08.25.08 | Permalink | 5 Comments

I absolutely love children’s clothing and it’s my opinion that the kids in my neighborhood (Potrero Hill, SF) are some of the most stylish around. A client of mine sent me a link to Tea Collection many months ago and I haven’t had the urge to blog about it until today.

Tea Collection has a new collection for fall called Fjords and Forests; inspired by Norway. They also have some great classic styles that should be made in adult sizes! I particularly love the Nihon Strip Sweater Robe for $69. While their prices aren’t necessarily a bargain, I’ve seen much more expensive clothes at local boutiques.

Check out Fjords and Forests here.

I’m just about to announce this in my August newsletter but wanted to blog about it here first. As long as you are in the SF Bay Area, you can use it for yourself, your family, or pass it on to a friend. The mini-session is 30 minutes at a location of your choice and you receive an online photo gallery, two print-ready, digital images from the shoot, and the ability to order a coffee-table book and/or prints.

All you have to do is click right here and enter your email address! The winner will be announced here on the blog at 9am PDT, October 1st. Good luck!

Customize your shoes at Keds Studio…

08.18.08 | Permalink | Comment?

You can customize nearly anything these days from your bath towels to your laptop. A favorite that I spotted recently via photojojo is Keds Studio where you can customize your shoes. My cousin, Aidan is completely mesmerized with butterflies and can differentiate between a Peruvian Milkweed and an Indonesian Meadow Wanderer. He would go bonkers over the butterfly shoes below. Can’t take the family dog in for show and tell? Put her on the front of your kid’s shoes to show off her lovely smile.

It was super-easy to upload and add images and it’s fun to play with colors. The whole family could customize their own.

Create yours here.

Ami Suma wall murals…if only we were in NY

08.06.08 | Permalink | 4 Comments

I came across a blog post about Ami Suma in Apartment Therapy’s nursery edition called, Ohdeedoh. If you’re a new mom, a soon-to be mom, or a dad for that matter, it’s a great resource for all things related to kids and home. Ami Suma is a Japanese artist who creates amazingly imaginative artwork for children’s rooms. She actually comes to your home for an initial consultation and discusses your ideas for the room. About a week later you’ll have sketches sent to you via email and finally a finished, original mural in your child’s room.

Her work reminds me of the films by Japanese director, Hayao Miyazaki, like Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away, as well as the contemporary Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami.

The only downfall is that she lives in New York and that you can’t take the work with you when you move. Perhaps you can pay extra for the smaller version!

See more of Ami’s work on her site here.

i heart newborns…

08.05.08 | Permalink | Comment?

I have a few more newborn sessions this August and I can hardly wait. Particularly because I love doing those sessions so much. Earlier this summer I had the pleasure of photographing Dashiell and his mom Kyle. We had a great time and Dashiell was a perfect subject! When I dropped off their prints and proof book a little while later, I was amazed to see how much he had grown! It’s unbelievable how much newborns change in the course of a few days and weeks!! I’ll never cease to be amazed!

Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot as well as the baby announcement Kyle chose for Dashiell. Lisa, (my awesome friend and designer-extraordinaire) custom-designed this one to suit the image Kyle selected as well as giving her a bunch of color options. Thanks Lisa for another great design!! And thanks Dashiell, Kyle, and Corey for a great shoot!

Twelve hours with Mary & Ciana…

08.05.08 | Permalink | Comment?

Last week, my cousin Mary and her daughter Ciana had a twelve hour layover in San Francisco, on their way home to New Zealand. I wish they could have stayed longer.

We took a nap on the bed:

We ate Vietnamese food (too bad Ciana only gets breast milk):

…and we even had some coffee:

It was a very fun day!

Etsy baby find of the week…

08.05.08 | Permalink | Comment?

You may recall that I’ve gushed about Etsy before. It’s really an incredible resource for hand-crafted/one-of-a kind goods and it feels great to support a small business. If you haven’t checked it out already, go. You won’t be disappointed. Speaking of which, here’s my Etsy find of the week:

Baby ring slings (say that three times), from the seller RaspberryBaby. I love the fabric and versatility of the ring sling. It fits the wee little ones (6 lbs.) all the way up to the spring chickens (35 lbs.), definitely a great gift for a new mom!

I love this baby! He looks so content!

Shetal & Amit’s slideshow…

07.31.08 | Permalink | 2 Comments

I thought I’d share this slideshow with you, since it was such a sweet shoot. Della, I stole the song idea from you, sorry! I thought this song would be great because it’s called First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes. The baby was born less than 12 hours later.

Hope you like it…
